The nursery operates from two floors; the Ground floor has been developed for children between the ages of 2 – 5 years, whereas the Upper floor has been designed for babies up to the age of 2 years. .
Upstairs Baby Floor (6 weeks – 2 years): Ystafell Babi
Our Baby Floor can accommodate up to 36 babies/children between the ages of 6 weeks and 2 years. The staff ratios within the room are 1 member of staff to every 3 children. This ratio is always met and often exceeded. The room has a separate sleeping area, baby changing facilities, toilets for children, a small kitchen plus a dining / messy play area. The day to day preparation of the Baby Room is overseen by a senior member of staff with distinct expertise working with the 0-2 year’s age range. With our children under the age of 3 years we plan activities around the framework ‘Birth to Three Matters’.
Downstairs Play Rooms: Ystafell Plant Bach (2-3years) and Ystafell Plant Mawr (3 to 5 years)
The downstairs play rooms can accommodate up to 52 children between the ages of 2 – 5 years old. The children are split into two different age groups; 2-3years and 3 to 5 years, both accommodating 26 children in each group. Children in this group access a separate dining/messy play room, changing facilities and children’s toilets. The staffing ratios for the children between the ages of 2 and 3 years old are 1 staff member to every 4 children. From 3 to 5 years we have at least 1 staff member to every 8 children. Again, these ratios are always met and often exceeded. Secluded from the room, is a fully functioning kitchen where the well balanced, nutritious menu is prepared. Our 3 to 5 year Group fully access the Foundation Phase Curriculum and we are Estyn Inspected.
Age groupings are flexible according to the needs and development of the individual children. Transitions between each of the three age groups are handled sensitively and with close parent liaison. We recognise the importance for our children to have a strong bond with the staff and particularly their key worker; there transitions usually take place over a period of several weeks.
The Garden
Our garden is situated around the side of the nursery building and has a brand new perimeter fence. This provides extra reassurance that our children are safe and secure. All areas of the garden are risk assessed daily to ensure that they are safe and clean.
We have the grass area which is covered in safe artificial grass as well as a flat, rubber surface with safety in mind. The garden has a play house, slide, bikes, scooters, balls, rackets, and a fitted chalk board to name just a few!
The garden can be used for messy play including water and sand and we encourage the children to grow their own flowers and vegetables in low level beds. We keep wet weather clothing and encourage families to keep wellington boots in the nursery at all times so that outdoor play takes place with the children every day.
We also have a removable undercover area for the children to be able to sit out of the sun or sit outside in the rain. The seating area provides brilliant opportunities for the children to have table top activities outdoors. Children spend some time outside every day, unless the weather makes this impossible.
